Moreover, Saliba completed an intensive training in the Levantine Arabic dialect (Shami). Saliba also visited the Department of Arabic at the Oriental Institute at the University of Leipzig where he had a meeting with Professor Kristina Stock and presented a copy of the Maltesisch für Ausländer series to the Library of Oriental Studies. During their visit, Charles Daniel Saliba gave a presentation about the development of the Maltese language through the years and how its characteristics make it unique. Saliba also spoke about Maltese culture and the historical relationship between Malta and Denmark. At the end of the presentation, Marcel Xuereb, the headmaster, presented Jørgensen with the book series Maltese for Foreigners, written by Saliba himself, so that Danish students could enhance their knowledge of the Maltese language, culture and literature. He analysed the main works of contributors to the study of Maltese paremiology, throwing light on the language habits of Maltese society, its mentality and psychological make-up. He even demonstrated that the Mediterranean cross-currents could be detected in Maltese proverbs. Mr Saliba also presented Professor Rui João Baptista Soares, with a bibliography of published works on Maltese proverbs, to serve as a springboard for further linguistic analysis of the subject.
